Directives and Standards

The German AD 2000 Codes of Practice on Pressure Vessels contain all of the essential safety requirements to be met in Germany in order to comply with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC) and are indispensable for implementing safety requirements in practice.

  • AD 2000 Code HP-0
    General principles of design, manufacture and associated tests
  • AD 2000 Code HP-1
    Design and construction

The ASME B16 standards covers pipes and fittings in cast iron, cast bronze, wrought copper and steel.

  • ASME B16.25
    Butt-welding Ends
  • ASME B16.34
    Valves - Flanged, Threaded, and Welding End

The German Institute for Standardization, is the gateway to global standardization. DIN’s goal is to develop standards that have validity worldwide. These help remove technical barriers to trade and add to the exporting strength of German industry. DIN represents German national interests in Europe and throughout the world. Participation in standards work at DIN gives German experts access to decision-making processes in supranational standards committees.

GOST (Russian: ГОСТ) refers to a set of technical standards maintained by the Euro-Asian Council for Standardization, Metrology and Certification (EASC), a regional standards organization operating under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The Nuclear Safety Standards Commission (KTA) has the task, to issue nuclear safety standards for topics in the area of nuclear technology and to support their application.

  • KTA 1401
    This safety standard applies to the quality assurance during planning and design, during procurement, fabrication and assembly of product forms, parts, components and systems as well as during commissioning including the related tests and inspections regard to the safety relevant parts in stationary power plants

The Pressure Equipment Directive provides, together with the directives related to simple pressure vessels (2009/105/EC), transportable pressure equipment (99/36/EC) and Aerosol Dispensers (75/324/EEC), for an adequate legislative framework on European level for equipment subject to a pressure hazard. Under the Community regime of the Directive, pressure equipment and assemblies above specified pressure and/or volume thresholds must:

  • be safe;
  • meet essential safety requirements covering design, manufacture and testing;
  • satisfy appropriate conformity assessment procedures; and
  • carry the CE marking and other information.

Technical Rules for Steam Boilers

  • TRD 201
    Technical rule: Welding of steel components – Manufacture – Inspection and testing
  • TRD 421
    Technical rule: Safeguards against excessive pressure – Safety valves – for steam boilers of groups I, III and IV
